On the 13th of November 2023, One Earth Generation (OEG) actively engaged in the National Tree Planting exercise called by His Excellency, the President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto. This initiative brought together various stakeholders, including members of OEG, to contribute to the aesthetic and environmental well-being of Langata constituency.

The primary goal of the exercise was to plant 3500 tree seedlings along the Langata roads. This initiative was aimed at enhancing the aesthetics of Langata by introducing greenery, while simultaneously addressing environmental challenges such as mitigating the impacts of climate change, reducing flooding, and increasing carbon sequestration.

As revealed by the local administration, the locations where the trees were to be placed were strategically chosen for their potential to beautify the area. Slotting in well with the government’s environment agenda, planting these tree seedlings served as a tangible contribution to the environment with multifaceted benefits.

The tree planting initiative is envisioned to contribute to the visual appeal of Langata, transforming the landscape into a more aesthetically pleasing environment. At the same time, the planted trees will play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of climate change and also act as natural buffers against flooding and contribute to increased carbon sequestration.

Waste Management

While at it, in discussions with the local leadership, One Earth Generation reiterated the commitment to responsible environmental stewardship by incorporating proper waste management practices.

The organization facilitated the collection and proper disposal of solid waste, particularly plastics, which continue to pose threat to the newly planted tree seedlings as well as the environment in general.

As part of our dedication to the cause, One Earth Generation pledged to monitor the planted seedlings actively. This commitment ensures ongoing support for the growth and maturity of the trees, maximizing the long-term environmental impact of the initiative.

Participation in such exercises reflect our commitment to environmental conservation. The impact of their efforts goes beyond the immediate visual enhancement of Langata, addressing critical issues such as climate change, flooding, and waste management. With a focus on growth monitoring and a vision for continuous engagement, One Earth Generation calls on other organizations and individuals to contribute actively to the well-being of our planet.

One Earth Generation is committed to extending its environmental initiatives beyond National Tree Planting Days. The organization aims to inspire more youth and children to actively participate in caring for the planet, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices for the sake of future generations.
