In anticipation of the World Cleanup Day coming up later in September, One Earth Generation joined up with eight other environment-conscious organizations for a cleanup activity on Saturday 14th September in Nairobi. In a bid to inspire collective commitment for a cleaner, greener planet, this event, organized by the Kilimani Project Foundation, brought together kids, parents, volunteers and professionals from all walks of life.

Shared determination and a chance to network

Gathering at Kiota School’s Kasuku Campus, the participants, armed with gloves and trash bags came with a shared determination to make a difference and ensure this camaraderie left the targeted cleanup area in Kilimani looking better. At the end of the exercise, an impressive amount of waste was collected. The debris included organic and inorganic waste, dumped along roads, walkways and drainage trenches.

The meetup also afforded the participants a chance to not only connect but also network, collaborate and to brainstorm over future partnerships.

Apart from One Earth Generation and Kilimani Project Foundation, the other organizations that took part included CTM (Ngong Road), Takataka Solutions, Fayhope, BroWhoCleans, Bottle Logistics EA, Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Center (WEEEC) and Kiota School.

About the World Cleanup Day and call to action

The World Cleanup Day is marked annually on 20th September and aims at sensitizing populations to act on waste management. It is coordinated by the Let’s Do It World, and NGO based in Tallinn, Estonia.

As the World Cleanup Day approaches, our call is for all to get involved in ensuring we have clean surroundings accelerated by better waste management. With conscious planning, we can all make eco-friendly choices and contribute in making the world a better, livable place for current and future generations.
