One Earth Generation (OEG) conducted a beekeeping training and project initiation for youth in Mundaya Village, Matayos Sublocation, Busia County, on 3rd January 2025. The initiative aimed to equip young people with essential knowledge and practical skills in beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood while promoting environmental conservation and biodiversity. The session was attended by 25 youth, the Village Elder, who played a key role in mobilizing the participants, a local trainer who facilitated the training, and members of OEG. Participants engaged actively, asking questions and sharing insights on how beekeeping could be integrated into their livelihoods.
Following the training, a discussion session was held where the youth shared their commitment to pursuing beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood project. They expressed readiness to organize themselves and register for certification as an official self-help youth group in Mundaya Village. They also requested support from OEG in acquiring beehives to start their venture. OEG welcomed their proposal and agreed to review it.
After reviewing the youth’s proposal, OEG recognized their commitment and decided to support them by providing four beehives. This was aimed at empowering them to establish their apiary, practice their newly acquired skills, and gradually expand their beekeeping project.
